Edna Student to Build 2016 Sigma Trophies

Kingston Jamaica: Getting that big break in the local art industry is often difficult for aspiring artists even in an era where technology has made it easier for people to communicate and showcase their talent online or via social media.

Ramon Christie, third year student at the Edna Manley School of Visual and Performing Arts was referred to Sagicor by his lecturer, celebrated ceramicist Norma Harrock.

Christie was then commissioned by Sagicor Group Jamaica to make the 45 awards for this year’s Sigma Corporate run set for February 21.

Sagicor Sigma Corporate Run gives trophies to top teams such as, largest corporate team, Best T-shirt design, largest high school team, Individual male/female run, and all awards will be done by Christie.

Christie tells us that the news to make the trophies was a surprise that he was most grateful for. “When I got the call, I was actually shocked and happy at the same time. It was also a bit surreal because about two years ago I got a project to build a trophy for a company award and I chose Sagicor.

Fast forward two years later and the company actually called me so I think that this is a great opportunity to now showcase my talent,” he shared.

The task to make all 45 trophies can’t be summed up in any other word but ‘hard,’ confessed the third year art student. “I haven’t slept for about two days now because I want to do this to the best of my ability. I have been spending the time to make it as perfect as possible. The process takes time because I have to design each one to keep the integrity of the run, ” he stated.
