In the Spotlight: Asafa Powell


Born on November 23, 1982, Asafa Powell is a professional sprint athlete and model, known for holding the world record for running under 10 seconds in the 100m races. Hailing from Spanish Town, St. Catherine, he now has a daughter with Amita Webb. In the past, he was linked to Jamaican beauty queen, Yendi Philipps.

Here are other fun facts about one of Jamaica’s beloved sprint champion.

Q: What is your drink of choice?
AP: Guinness (off season).

Q: Whose music are you currently listening to in the reggae/dancehall genre?
AP: Chronixx.

Q: How would you describe your sense of style?
AP: I’m a casual guy - I love great jeans and a tee shirt with a nice belt and pair of shoes.

Q: What's your favorite movie?
AP: Fast & Furious I-VII

Q: Which one are you more likely to go for, KFC or a typical "box" food?
AP: “Fried chicken and chips is my favorite, so KFC. But, I love Jamaican Fried Chicken with Curry Gravy – though I have cut out rice from my diet for the most part so box lunch gets a blow,” he says, while flashing that brilliant smile.

Q: Where's your favorite city in the world to visit?
AP: I love Australia - Sydney and Melbourne. I always feel welcome and at home there.

Q: What's next for Asafa?
AP: I am grateful to still be able to do what I love which is run and I look forward to a healthy and successful season.
