At the start of every year a vibe awaits all lovers of Jamaican genres of music; ska, rocksteady, rockers, reggae and dancehall are only a few of the ones that have impacted the world in their original form or as inspiration for some of the most famous musical acts of the 20th and 21st century.
What started out as a concert to celebrate the birthday of reggae icon Tony Rebel, Rebel Salute has evolved to become so much more. The show has captured the attention and love of roots and reggae lovers worldwide; drawing people numbering in the thousands to Jamaica for this one event alone. Jamaicans too set aside this time to head down to Grizzly’s Plantation in Priory, St. Ann to participate in one of the biggest events on the island’s live music calendar.
Staged by the Organic HEART Group of Companies, Rebel Salute delivers what is considered one of the greatest roots reggae shows across the globe. What sets this event apart is not only the quality of the entertainment offered but how it is presented. All performers uniquely step on stage under their true names and provide versions of their hits without lyrics that include violence, bigotry or anything associated with hate messaging in any way, shape or form. The concept is of a violence-free and non-alcoholic event. There is also a strong emphasis on philanthropic works and the quickly evolving cannabis based industry with a reintroduction to the Herb Curb spot where people can learn more.
Rebel Salute serves a strict vegetarian menu complimented by a diet of cultural roots rap from Reggae’s finest. Many locals choose to attend and the event is family friendly. All of the offerings combined with the warm hospitality of the Jamaican people are what makes this event one not to be missed.
In 2019 the event is being held on January 18th and 19th with the following expected line up to take the stage: Nigerian music star Patoranking; Bobby Wine (Ugandan politician and performing artiste - who Tony Rebel promises will produce a memorable set); Mykal Rose; The Wailers; The Wailing Soul; Dawn Penn; Wayne Marshall; Marvin Moore; Cat Coore; Luciano; Shalom; Leroy Gibbon; Terry Ganzie; Marva Gillespie; Marcia Aitken; Mr Easy; Jah Bouks; Queen Ifrica; Agent Sasco; Ken Boothe; Half Pint; Mr Vegas; Turbulence; Jesse Royal; Yellowman; Shane-O; Chi-Ching-Ching; Rodney Price, and more to be announced.
