In fact, after considering the population of Jamaica and the existence of churches, Jamaica was placed in the Guinness Book of World Records for the most churches in the world per capita.

 
2. Jamaica stands in the top tier as one of the most athletically inclined countries in the world.

Jamaica ranks second, the United States is ranked first, for having the most Olympic medals in the world. Naturally, we're the birthplace of the sprint legend, Usain Bolt.

Considering the difference in population, the ratio is astonishing.


3. You can thank Jamaica for the easy access we now have to bananas.

Jamaica started the banana trade by being the first country to export bananas and trade them with other countries.

The Giant Swallowtail lives in Jamaica.

As the second largest butterfly in the world, seeing these huge fluttering beauties is sure to amaze you. You're sure to spot them in the parishes of Trelawny and Portland. 

5. Jamaica was the first English-speaking country to establish independence in the Caribbean islands.

This happened on August 6, 1962.
