Where to stay in Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa

Where to stay in Jamaica after Hurricane Melissa

Have you been wondering what travel to Jamaica feels like right now, after Hurricane Melissa?

You’re not alone.

Spoiler alert: life hasn’t stopped on the island.

In many places, it’s already back to familiar rhythms, and hotels across the island are steadily reopening their doors.

You’ll feel that same quiet reassurance when you arrive: Jamaica is open, warm, and ready to welcome you again.

This guide walks you through where to stay across each destination.

Negril Hotels reopening

If you’re craving Negril’s calm beaches, cliffside views, or that famous sunset glow, you’ll find many properties already open.

Luxury stays such as The Caves, Rockhouse Hotel, Charela Inn, Skylark Negril Beach Resort, Coco La Palm Seaside Resort, and Tensing Pen are all operating as usual and taking bookings.

When you walk through these spaces, you’ll notice the familiar smells of jerk pans along Norman Manley Boulevard, music from small bars drifting into the night, and that slow, easy pace you expect from Negril.

Several hotels are still getting ready to reopen, including Azul Beach Resort Negril, Couples Swept Away, Couples Negril, RIU Negril, RIU Palace Tropical Bay, and Sandals Negril, with dates ranging from November to December 2025.

If you plan to travel later in the year, it’s a good idea to confirm availability directly with the hotel since reopening timelines may shift.

For last-minute trips or winter vacations, you’ll have plenty of open options along Seven Mile Beach and the West End cliffs.

Montego Bay hotels you can book now

Montego Bay remains the most convenient destination to fly into, and several hotels are currently open.

You can check into spots like Deja Resort, S Hotel Montego Bay, Iberostar Selection Rose Hall Suites, Iberostar Waves, JOIA Rose Hall, or Ocean Coral Spring without any delays.

Many of the larger all-inclusive resorts are in the final stages of reopening. Properties such as Excellence Oyster Bay, Grand Decameron, Half Moon, Hotel 39, RIU Montego Bay, and Round Hill Hotel will begin reopening from late November to December 2025.

If your travel dates fall in early 2026, big names such as Breathless, Hyatt Zilara, Hyatt Ziva, and Dreams Resort & Spa will be ready by the end of January.

Montego Bay remains a strong choice if you want a wide range of dining, nightlife, and easy access to transportation.

Ocho Rios Hotels ready for visitors

If you’re heading to Dunn’s River Falls, rafting on the White River, or exploring nearby beaches, many Ocho Rios accommodations are currently open.

These include Jamaica Inn, Goldeneye, Hermosa Cove, Moon Palace, and RIU Ocho Rios.

The energy here still feels lively, vendors calling out their greetings, fishing boats returning at dawn, and families heading out to attractions along the coast.

A few iconic resorts such as Couples Sans Souci, Couples Tower Isle, Grand Muthu, and Sandals Ochi will reopen on December 1 and December 6, 2025.

If you’re planning a holiday or early-2026 visit, these resorts will be great options.

Port Antonio is open

Port Antonio was less affected and continues to offer its signature quiet, nature-driven stays.

Hotels such as Geejam, The Trident Castle, Sea Cliff Resort & Spa, and Jamaica Palace are all open.

This region feels untouched in many ways.

You’ll hear bamboo rustling in the hills, feel cool mountain air in the evenings, and see fishermen bringing in their catch just after sunrise.

If you want a relaxed escape while still supporting local communities, Port Antonio is a beautiful option.

Kingston hotels remain operational

Kingston’s accommodations are all open and active, including AC Hotel, The Jamaica Pegasus, ROK Hotel, Courtleigh Suites, Terra Nova All-Suite Hotel, and Strawberry Hill.

Whether you’re traveling for business or exploring the city’s food and music, you’ll find Kingston moving with its usual energy.

Cafés are open, live music venues are hosting shows again, and New Kingston remains a reliable hub for visitors who enjoy blending cultural experiences with comfort.

South Coast Stays: what's open now

If your plans include Treasure Beach, Mandeville, or the surrounding areas, you’ll find several smaller hotels and guesthouses open. Hotel Versalles, Golfview Hotel, JamGolia Place, and Milk River Hotel & Spa are currently welcoming guests.

This part of Jamaica is known for its quiet charm.

You'll enjoy freshly cooked meals, calm beaches, and friendly locals who are always ready for a conversation.

Jakes Hotel, one of the area’s most iconic spots, will reopen on December 18, 2025, and is already accepting bookings.

Other properties like Lashings will reopen in November 2025, while larger resorts such as Sandals South Coast will follow later in 2026.

If you’re heading to Treasure Beach soon, booking one of the open boutique stays will give you both comfort and an authentic local connection.

Jamaica is open

Jamaica is steadily reopening, community by community and hotel by hotel.

With reopening dates shifting as recovery progresses, it always helps to double-check availability directly with any hotel you plan to book.
