Bob and Rita Marley Foundations empower women through breast cancer awareness activation

The Bob and Rita Marley Foundations hosted their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Activation on October 13, 2026, at the Bob Marley Museum under the empowering theme “Check, Detect, Protect."

As part of the Foundations’ ongoing commitment to community upliftment and women’s health, 35 women from underserved communities across Kingston and St. Andrew were selected to participate in this meaningful initiative.

Each participant received a mammogram voucher, courtesy of the Foundations, to undergo screening at Apex Radiology.

Learning the signs, saving lives

The day began with an informative and inspiring session led by Radiographer, Yashika Salmon from Apex Radiology, who engaged the women in an interactive discussion on the causes of breast cancer, early detection methods, and the importance of regular mammograms.

Following the session, the women were presented with their gift certificates, treated to breakfast, and transported to Apex Radiology to complete their screenings

United in the fight against Breast Cancer

Speaking on the initiative, Alicia Williams, Manager of the Bob and Rita Marley Foundations, emphasised the importance of access and awareness in combating breast cancer:

“This year, the Bob and Rita Marley Foundations are especially proud to support a cause that touches the lives of so many Jamaican women.

According to the Ministry of Health, breast cancer remains the leading cancer among women in Jamaica.Through this initiative, we are not only raising awareness but also taking action.

We are ensuring that women have the education, encouragement, and access they need to take charge of their health. We believe every woman, regardless of background, deserves the opportunity to check, detect, and protect.”

Bringing awareness to action

The Breast Cancer Awareness activation forms part of the Foundations’ broader mission to empower communities through health, education, and social support.

Guided by the legacy of Bob and Rita Marley, the Foundations continue to champion causes that improve the quality of life for all Jamaicans.
