Let’s say you’re in Jamaica and trying not to blow through your vacation budget.

Walk the Palisadoes Strip in Kingston

This activity is about the view.

The stretch of road from Harbour View to the Norman Manley International Airport has the sea on both sides and a warm breeze you’ll want to bottle.

People stop their cars, step out, and just watch the water.

You can expect to see joggers during early mornings and sunset hours as those times are usually quite nice.

Visit the National Gallery on the last Sunday of the month

On the last Sunday of each month, the National Gallery of Jamaica opens its doors for free.

Inside, you’ll find powerful pieces from Jamaican icons like Edna Manley and talented young artists from across the Caribbean.

Here you can view sculptures, paintings, ceramics, and photography installations.

Also, on the last Sunday of every month, expect live drumming, dance performances, and family art workshops.

It’s an easy win for a meaningful afternoon.

Spend a couple of hours at Emancipation Park

Right in the heart of Kingston, this park offers free admission.

Here, you have access to clean paths to walk, benches to sit, and lots of trees for shade.

The massive statue at the entrance sparks conversation.

If you show up on a weekend evening, there might be a band playing or a free fitness class happening.

Some locals visit the park to complete their work routine, you may also find a few readers and other chatting up with friends.  to stretch.

Follow the trail to Cane River Falls

If you’re staying near Kingston, ask someone to point you toward Bull Bay.

That’s where you’ll find the route to Cane River Falls.

Wear comfortable shoes because the route to get there is rugged. 

But once you reach the river and falls, the cool water makes everything worth it.

Also, many people may not know that here is where Bob Marley used to wash his dreadlocks.

Attend a street dance

Jamaican street dances are full of sound, color, and movement.

And while they’re known around the world, many are free to attend.

You’ll find speakers stacked sky high, dancers flexing the latest dance moves, and DJs keeping the energy high.

Look out for events like Weddy Weddy Wednesdays or Boom Sundays.

Even if you’re not dancing, you're guaranteed a great time as you observe locals enjoy the music and the company of each other.
